BRAMON, the Brazilian Meteor Observation Network, received in May 08 morning, several reports of a great flash followed by a strong explosion noise coming from region of Patos de Minas, west of Minas Gerais. Following these reports, BRAMON requested the search for images from climaaovivo.com.br cameras, making it possible to find images of the phenomenon in 8 cameras in 7 cities in Minas Gerais, São Paulo and even Paraná.
The event took place at dawn of Friday, May 8, 2020, at 03:25 am Brasília time and was a very luminous meteor, also called a bolide. The meteor and the flash it generated was also recorded by several security cameras in the region, mainly in Patos de Minas. That image came from there, from NTV, and it helped us calculate the trajectory of the bolide:
Even among the clouds, the bolide was also recorded by SONEAR’s allsky camera:

Analisis
As the bolide was not recorded by BRAMON stations, preliminary analyzes were made from the videos in Lagoa da Prata, MG (two cameras), Cerqueira César, SP and Patos de Minas, MG.
According to preliminary analyzes, the object followed a trajectory from southwest to northeast, starting its light phase at about 64 km height, between Araxá and Uberaba. It continued with high light in the northeast direction at a speed of 15.36 km/s (55300 km/h), until it exploded at 30km heigh, close to the Municipality of Tiros, in Minas Gerais.
The analyzes are still being improved so that we can determine the object’s initial mass, but the images suggest that some fragments of this meteoroid possibly survived the atmospheric passage and reached the ground.
As soon as the data is being refined, it will be updated here.
